Super Negin Safranfäden präsentiert auf dunklem Tisch – ZAFFRONIQUE Premium Safran aus Herat, Afghanistan

Super Negin Saffron by ZAFFRONIQUE is a rare natural treasure of exceptional density and purity.

Its quality arises from a single, unmistakable origin, a narrowly defined harvest window, and the careful hand-selection of every individual thread. This preserves what defines true premium saffron: potency, clarity, and the unadulterated essence of the plant.

On the palate, saffron reveals itself as layered and profound—bitter-aromatic, spicy, and delicately sweet at once. Warm nuances of earth, honey, musk, and floral notes unfold with calm precision.

It lends dishes not only character, but that unmistakable, intense golden hue. Just a few threads are enough to transform the everyday into a deliberate moment.

Why ZAFFRONIQUE?

Luxury that doesn't just taste good – it makes a difference.
Every thread carries a story of dignity, precision and respect.

Empowering women

Our saffron is harvested and processed by women in the high valleys of Afghanistan. In a region where economic opportunities for women are limited, the saffron harvest creates independent income and autonomy.

Fair trade conditions

No middlemen, no anonymous supply chains. We work directly with the producers on the ground – for fair prices, long-term partnerships and the assurance that quality and humanity go hand in hand.

Sustainable cultivation

Traditional farming in the mountain regions of Afghanistan – without pesticides, without industrialisation. Methods passed down for generations. A product that respects the earth because it springs from it.

Single Origin – one terroir, one vintage

No blending, no mixing from different harvests or regions. Every batch carries a vintage and batch number – traceable from field to your kitchen. Like a Grand Cru.

Distinction
Years in Succession · 2017 — 2026

For a decade, Herat has stood as the origin of the world's finest saffron.

Recognised by the International Taste Institute in Brussels — evaluated annually by more than 250 international master chefs.

Substantiated by Research

Saffron from Herat achieves the highest average crocin levels in international comparison.

Curated Rituals

One Moment, Many Worlds.

Liquid Gold

A whisper of saffron turns any drink into a ritual. Its warm notes lend even the clearest compositions a quiet depth — subtle, never overt.

Velvet and Light

In creams, puddings, or ices, saffron unfolds its full poetry: velvet texture, luminous gold, a scent of morning light and honey.

Fire and Earth

A few threads are enough to ennoble savoury dishes. Saffron lifts roasted notes, opens spices, and binds sweet and savoury into harmonious balance.

From our journal

More than a spice – what science knows

Why does saffron cost more than gold by weight? What do crocin, safranal and picrocrocin actually do? And what does the research say? Answers in our journal – well-founded, honest, without promises.

Frequently asked questions

Everything about saffron

How do I use saffron in cooking? +

Saffron threads release their full aroma when finely ground and steeped in warm water, milk or broth for 10–15 minutes before use. The concentrate can then be added to dishes, dressings, doughs or drinks – for optimal colour, aroma and flavour.

How much saffron do I need per dish? +

For a dish serving 4, approximately 0.1 to 0.2 grams is sufficient – that's about 8–15 threads. Less is often more: saffron develops its effect subtly and becomes bitter when overused.

How do I store saffron properly? +

Store in a cool, dry and dark place. Seal airtight after opening. Our saffron has a best-before date of at least 4 years from the year of harvest. Properly stored, it retains its full aroma for many months.

What sets Super Negin apart? +

Super Negin refers exclusively to the longest, undamaged stigma threads – no style, no breakage. It is the highest commercially available quality grade. Our batch achieves crocin values of 265+, safranal 34+ and picrocrocin 100+ – far exceeding ISO minimum requirements.

Where does your saffron come from? +

Our saffron comes from a single region in Afghanistan (Herat) – a terroir repeatedly recognised as the source of the world's finest saffron. Single sourcing, one harvest, one batch. Every harvest is traceable as a separate vintage.
